VIOLENT VIRA channels her music from traumatic yet deeply relatable life experiences and extraordinary empathy for the world around her. That sensitivity manifests at both extremes, swinging between beguiling melodies and cathartic screams. The Mexican-American songstress born Amy Gonzalez, alongside bandmates Anthony Brown and Matt Bolling, has quietly emerged as a hard rock phenomenon with hundreds of millions of streams and dozens of sold-out shows.
Born to first-generation Mexican parents, Amy grew up in a trailer park in Boise, Idaho. Her mother always made sure there was food on the table, but the family faced the harsh reality of a broken system made even colder by unforgiving winters. Finding solace in art, she went from listening to Mexican pop juggernaut RBD to obsessing over Selena and Michael Jackson before later discovering Evanescence, Linkin Park, and Three Days Grace.
Determined to become a singer, she auditioned for American Idol, America’s Got Talent, and Tengo Talento, regularly busking in the streets with a ukulele. After high school, she remained under her parents’ roof while balancing day jobs with writing songs of her own. Years of grinding to be heard finally paid off when 2021’s “I Don’t Care” went mega viral, surpassing 100 million Spotify streams. She kept the momentum going with songs like “You Wanted More” and “God Complex,” which amassed another 60 million Spotify streams.
Her 2023 EP, Till’ Death Was Never Enough, produced fan favorites “Collar of Truth” and “You’re Not Gone, You’re Just Dead!” She later relocated to Texas and signed with MOM+POP. Beyond selling out headline tours, she has appeared at major festivals including Aftershock, RIOT Fest, SICK NEW WORLD, Welcome To Rockville, and more.
Now, VIOLENT VIRA returns sounding like someone clawing their way back to life against all odds on the full-length debut LP, Lover of a Ghost.
